Teens Leadership Camp is Organized by Grassroots Youth & Community Livelihood Enhancement Initiative (GYCLEi). GYCLEi is a youth-led, non-governmental and non-profit making development organization with focus on supporting children, youth and overall community development. Founded in 2014, GYCLEi got registered with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and Nasarawa State Ministry of Women and Child Development in 2017. Since operation, GYCLEi has implemented projects in Nasarawa and Benue states, notable among are:
i. Free summer lessons for children in Akwanga, Nasarawa state.
ii. Extra classes through clubs for slow learners in public schools in Akwanga, Nasarawa State.
iii. Drilling of borehole in Chuse community in Akwanga, Nasarawa State
iv. Naturally High Anti-Drug Campaign Music Festival – 2017, 2018 & 2022.
v. Battle of the Sexes – Gender Equality Events in Nasarawa and Makurdi - 2016 to 2019 & 2021.
vi. Nasarawa Teens Leadership Summer Camp held at St. John Bosco Secondary School, Doma, Nasarawa State.
The Team
GYCLEi was founded by Barnabas Usman, an international development professional with expertise in youth development and extensive experience in designing and implementing health, education and agriculture/empowerment programs for children, youth and women. He has over 12 years consistent experience of working with local, national and international NGOs. He is a recipient of numerous awards & scholarships including the Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarship (2019) for a Public Policy & Management Masters at Strathmore Business School, Kenya and the United Kingdom Government’s Chevening Scholarships (2021) funding his Masters in Power, Participation & Social Change at the University of Sussex, UK.
GYCLEi is comprised of a team of dynamic youths who are working together as a unit to provide lasting solutions to identified problems while building sustainable leadership.
